What you’ll learn in this course
Module 1: Epidemiology, Disparities, and Impact of Cancer
Gain knowledge about cancer epidemiology and disparities, as well as the short and long-term impacts that cancer has on individuals.
Module 2: Cancer Terminology and Pathophysiology
Learn the common cancer terminology and the pathophysiology of cancer, as well as staging, grading, and classifications of cancer.
Module 3: Diagnosing Cancer
Get insights into the signs and symptoms and warning signs of cancer, as well as the three primary ways that cancer is diagnosed - diagnostic imaging, biopsies, and lab tests. General diagnostic methods will focus on solid tumor and pelvic cancers.
Module 4: Cancer Treatments
Increase your knowledge about the primary types of cancer treatments (surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy). You'll also learn about common side effects of these interventions and rehab considerations for the clinic. Focus on general cancer treatments will be on those most commonly used for solid tumor and pelvic cancers.
Module 5: Rehab Through the Cancer Continuum
After completing this module, you will have a better understanding about the cancer continuum, seasons of survivorship, the four domains of oncology rehab, who the primary healthcare providers are on a multidisciplinary team, and the role of rehab, regardless of the time since diagnosis and treatment.
Module 6: Review of Systems and Examination
Build your skillset on how to perform a comprehensive systems review for cancer survivors including the musculoskeletal system, cardiovascular and pulmonary system, neurological system, integumentary system, and gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and gynecological systems. You'll also learn key items you need to include in your subjective examination and what outcome measures are validated in the cancer population. Focus will be on pelvic cancers and related sequelae.
Module 7: Critical Considerations
Learn about warning signs of metastasis, important blood counts to be aware of, and precautions and contraindications for exercise and use of modalities.
Module 8: Exercise Prescriptions
After completing this module, you’ll know how to safely implement functional tests and tailored exercise prescriptions. Additionally, you will learn about exercise guidelines for specific conditions including lymphedema, cancer related fatigue, and bone metastasis.
Module 9: Wellness and Health Promotion
Increase your understanding about the barriers to exercise for cancer survivors, how you can help guide your patients to increase physical activity levels, and how to effectively provide education to your patients.

Answer: No, this is a Beginner/Basic course for pelvic health rehab clinicians. However, this course or another oncology basics course is a prerequisite for the intermediate OncoPelvic PT course, Pelvic Oncology Rehabilitation.
